Artist Tara Shuey TN Story

Bittersweet Story of My Life
My name is Tara Shuey and I am a Mom, Girlfriend, Trigeminal Neuralgia Fighter and an Artist. Get out your tissues and I will take you on an adventure that will change your perspective on many things.
I had this shooting pain across my jawline. That is when I went to every specialist known to man. The pain became so bad that I was visiting the hospital once a week. They would send me home with a bottle of useless pills and ask me to get a psych evaluation. I like to believe that I got lost in the grey area. I went 20days without sleep. That night I took all of my pills and landed in the emergency room with 24/7 watched. As I rolled around in so much pain, Later I found out I have:

Trigeminal Neuralgia (otherwise known as the suicide disease) I said “I have what?”( Trigeminal neuralgia is a nerve disorder that causes a stabbing or electric-shock-like pain in nerves in the head.)
Fibromyalgia.( Fibromyalgia is a common syndrome in which a person has long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Fibromyalgia has also been linked to fatigue, sleep problems, headaches, depression, and anxiety.)
I changed my life by asking to see a Neurologist. I got my first night sleep. I saved my life that moment. My battle was far from over though. This disease isn’t something you can pick up and run away from. I was putting ice on my face till it was numb or wrapped in a heating blanket. When my face left me alone, then my body would ache.
Here is the sweet part of my story. I seriously started to express my pain through soul searching and expressing my pain through my painting. It took a while but I started getting noticed. I have started showing my work and even sold some pieces and met a woman Angela Lender that works for Recovery partnership who sold my art and helped give me inspiration to keep painting. The most life changing is a I met a woman online that sent me an awareness TN bracelet Named Melissa King and we got to messaging and she introduced my art to Rebecca Thorpe and Toni Saunders and they loved it so much that they made products featuring my drawing and I was so proud. The piece that was chosen was Fairy Land, I was in the most pain when I drew it. I was on the phone with Rebecca as she made that image viral I never want what happened to me to happen to anyone else. I want the world to know this disease is very real and there are people that like me who need a CURE!!!!!
